WHAT IS CABARET? Some would call it a concert with no dress code. We would add, the art of cabaret is connecting music to the audience through a wide variety of singing styles that dares performers to reinterpret, personalize, combine, separate, capsize and re-imagine music. Performed in small rooms that permit a sense of intimate exchange with the audience, it’s less a genre than an approach – a risky closeness to the material and the audience. The number of singers varies from 1-3 in a show and they are most commonly backed by a ‘jazz trio’ (piano, bass, drums). Regardless of the definition, it’s a whole lot of fun! Lyric Lab is a complete performance workshop, where you learn skills needed to be a well-rounded, confident performer - on the stage and in life. In a nurturing atmosphere, the Lyric Lab offers you the perfect opportunity to learn the art of cabaret, jazz, improvising, opera and public speaking from professionals who have performed all over the world and are still working today.
No cancellations or refunds. Please consider carefully before signing up. This is an ongoing workshop so new sessions will start after the current session ends. The Lyric Lab is a customized six week-long workshop - three hours per class, one class per week, with a public performance on the last class. It is limited to a maximum of six participants. This is a cumulative class so attendance is necessary for session. Thank you!
