to Lone Star Lyric!
On behalf of our Board of Directors and our fabulous performing artists, it is my pleasure to welcome you to our ninth anniversary season.
Founded in 2006, Lone Star Lyric has carved out a unique niche in Houston's theater community. Our mission is to explore the untapped lyric theater repertory of the past and to promote new works by living American composers.
We are celebrating the Lyric Cabaret’s third birthday! Our monthly series, featuring music from the ‘Great American Songbook,’ has moved to a new cozy venue, Caviart Gallery - with a gorgeous piano donated by former HSO Music Director, Hans Graf - is as our Joseph Li said, "a true Manhattan-size listening room."
What is cabaret? Some would call it a cocktail concert with no dress code. I would add, the art of cabaret singing is connecting the music to the audience through a wide variety of singing styles that dares performers to reinterpret, personalize, combine, separate, capsize and reimagine music. Regardless of the definition, it’s a whole lot of fun!
June 2015 marks our ninth summer festival of chamber opera and boutique musique. LSL has commissioned and will premiere two brand new operas as part of our 10th Anniversary in 2016. As a teaser, we will present a special showcase of excerpts from both new works this summer. SECRETS. BETRAYALS. DINNER? sums up our bountiful 2015 June Festival of comic chamber operas. This end of season party will be an affair to remember.
With 14 cabarets and six festival productions Houston will be humming all year long. The cabarets are so popular and sell out quickly. Get your tickets early so you don’t miss a note!
